Oracle, an integrated Information Technology (IT) solution provider in hardware and software systems has identified accessibility, simplicity and robustness as key drivers to cloud computing. Senior Vice-President for Eastern Central Europe, Middle East and Africa (ECEMEA) of the company, Mr. Alfonso Di Ianni, who spoke at a reception dinner for journalists at the Oracle Cloud World conference in Dubai, said the major drivers for the global adoption of cloud computing, were never security, control and affordability issues, but were issues associated with the robustness of the technology, its accessibility, and simplicity in managing the technology.
According to him, these factors were fast driving cost-savings and increased productivity among technology global business owners. Speaking on Oracle investments in the different regions where it operates, Di Ianni said it invested in diversified areas of business, but with more focus on Oracle Academy and the Oracle Cloud computing. “The intention of Oracle is to localise its business operations through its various partners in the regions.
Allaying fears of investing in cloud computing, which allows the storage of large data in the cloud, Di Ianni said the perceived fears of insecurity, control of data and the cost of storing data in the cloud, should not be an inhibiting factor to cloud computing, which he insisted, remained the best technology platform for today’s technology business.
According to him, “Oracle Cloud offers a broad portfolio of software as a service application, platform as a service, and social capabilities, all on a subscription basis. Oracle Cloud delivers instant value and productivity for end users, administrators, and developers alike through functionally rich, integrated, secure, enterprise cloud services.”
With Oracle Cloud, customers, he said, could get enterprise-grade application and platform services based on best-in-class business applications and the industry’s leading database and application server, managed by experts with over a decade of cloud delivery experience, he said, adding that over 25 million users globally, rely on Oracle Cloud every day. He added that Oracle also provides comprehensive products for cloud providers to build and manage private clouds, and managed cloud services to help customers fully manage and host their clouds.
In spite of the opportunities that are available with cloud computing, as identified by Oracle, some technology organisations across the globe, still envisage some fears in the adoption of cloud computing. Some have argued that since the data would be stored away from the physical environment of the business premises, chances are that other people may have access to the data, which makes it vulnerable to online attacks. Some technology experts have argued that the technology is expensive to deploy. But Di Ianni said the advantages of cloud computing as identified by Oracle, far outweigh its disadvantages.
