Brace yourselves. In a recent blog post, Seth Godin says: “No.” This may sound surprising, but I think his main point is right. Even we here at Faith and Prosperity, who look for ways to merge faith and business, have to agree that business ethics is a kind of crazy idea – especially when Seth puts it this way:

It comes down to this: only people can have ethics.

That’s a very interesting statement, and it’s true. Whether your business is ethical or not depends on yourself and the other people that work with you. If you are choosing the good in every situation, it certainly helps. Seth says that he would rather work with a lot of ethical people than try to find an ethical company.

This could make sense – a company can have all the CSR programs it wants, but ultimately it is the people behind those programs and their own actions that matter.
