Businesses from across Lincolnshire can get an inside look into the world of cloud computing thanks to a visit to a leading supplier being organised by onlincolnshire.

Cloud computing allows you to use a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server, meaning your business can be truly mobile.  The idea is to streamline business practice and provide more flexibility by allowing you to access your data from anywhere.

The event will feature demonstrations of how cloud services work and talks on the uses of such services.  The Lincolnshire County Council-run project has brought in CDI Alliance Ltd to help organise the event.  It will be held on 26th September 2013between 4.30pm and 7.10pm at the Timico Ltd Data Centre in Newark.  Trefor Davies, the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Timico, spoke at the onlincolnshire Digital Conference in March.

Councillor Colin Davie, Executive Member for Economic Development at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “It is really important that businesses know the benefits of this technology and that they’re encouraged to embrace it.

“There are so many uses for the cloud and so many ways it can improve how a business functions and help to increase profit margins. The cost of maintaining servers through a cloud provider is lower than using physical servers, it saves space in the workplace and means if an office is damaged, for example by a fire, less information is at risk of being lost.

“Thousands of people use cloud services every day and the way it allows businesses to work on the go and access files from anywhere is truly remarkable.”

Anyone attending the event will need to bring photo ID owing to the secure nature of the Timico facility.   The event is being part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
