San Antonio-based Rackspace Inc. has launched one of the first hybrid cloud services in Hong Kong. The new public cloud service uses OpenStack, Rackspace’s open source cloud computing platform.

“We are excited to launch the region’s first hybrid cloud powered by OpenStack,” says Ajit Melarkode, managing director of Rackspace Asia Pacific. “OpenStack already gives thousands of our customers access to the power of open standards and enables them to enjoy freedom from vendor lock-in as they open new gateways to faster innovation through cloud computing.”

The Rackspace Hybrid Cloud encompasses public cloud, private cloud and dedicated servers, working alone or together in any combination in a unified infrastructure. It also comes with industry leading service-level-agreements and 24-hour support for all types of businesses and industries, company officials say.

“Hong Kong was the obvious choice for the regional base of our Hybrid Cloud offering,” Melarkode says. “Businesses here are among the Asia-Pacific leaders in cloud adoption and constantly come to us for ways to build on their achievements.”
