Android device users, get ready to join the Instagram fun. Makers of the popular photo-sharing app are now taking e-mail addresses for those who want to be first in line.

Good news for Android users who’ve had to sit by the sidelines watching their iOS friends have all the Instagram fun. The company yesterday opened a sort of registration for Android users, giving them the chance to be “first in line” for the app made for Google’s platform.

We knew Instagram for Android was coming really soon. Founders of the popular photo-sharing app, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, said as much at South by Southwest earlier this month. “In some ways, it’s better than our iOS app. It’s crazy,” Systrom said about the impending Android app.

But we haven’t known when exactly Instagram for Android would be released, even if in beta. And we still don’t know. The sign-up doesn’t offer much in the way of details. When you enter your e-mail, it replies, simply: “Thanks for signing up! We’ll be in touch soon.”

Still, its arrival appears to be imminent.

Instagram for iOS devices first launched in 2010 and its registered user base has swelled to at least 27 million. Much of this growth, Krieger and Systrom have said, came with the launch of the iPhone 4S and Apple naming Instagram “App of the Year.”
