Private boards may soon be coming to Pinterest.
When pinning an image to Pinterest Wednesday morning, we noticed a mention of “secret boards” (see screenshot above). We were unable to create secret boards or find another reference to them, however, signaling that this may be a feature that Pinterest is preparing to roll out shortly.
Pinterest could not immediately be reached for comment.
The change comes a day after the San Francisco-based startup posted an alert about scheduled maintenance on its site Tuesday afternoon.
Users have long been asking Pinterest to allow them to make private boards. Since its launch, all images and videos pinned to Pinterest have been made public, making it impossible to for users to use the service for pinning gift ideas or other content they may not want to make available for public consumption.
