In Malaysia, software-as-a-service [SaaS] has the highest adoption in cloud computing, followed by infrastructure- and platform-as a service [IaaS, PaaS], according to business technology solutions provider Oracle Malaysia.
During Oracle’s Chinese New Year media briefing, Oracle Malaysia’s managing director Jimmy Cheah said the company’s *2014 outlook noted the increasing call by Malaysia-based customers for cloud-delivered services. “This is in tune with the worldwide SaaS market, according to Siemer & Associates [Summer 2013 SaaS Industry Report].”
**”Customers in Malaysia include a recent human resource management [HRM] implementation by Astro Malaysia and Oracle RightNow cloud service to improve customer care by Bursa Malaysia,” said Cheah, adding that more organisations are opting for SaaS-based CRM applications.
“Although much of the adoption is driven by enterprise until now, we expect more interest from the small and medium enterprise [SME] space,” he said. “Customers can opt for a mix of clouds and implementations. Or business is to provide options to meet the expectations of our customers.”
“SMEs usually find an easier entry into accessing enterprise level services via cloud computing without having to deal with infrastructure complexity,” said Cheah. “Systems integrators [SIs] are coming to us to develop cloud service options for customers.”
“Organisations are attracted to the Cloud because of its lower up-front costs compared to traditional IT-centric approaches to application deployment,” he added. “The key factors that are driving Cloud adoption in the market include the Internet of Things phenomenon, data explosion, increasing mobility, and social business as well as a drive by businesses to upgrade their legacy IT systems.”

No longer hype
“Malaysia’s Cloud adoption momentum is growing and has moved well beyond the ‘hype’ phase. It is now a reality,” said Oracle Malaysia country manager, applications, Nik Feizal Haidi Hanafi.
“We are seeing increased interest from our local customers towards Cloud solutions, particularly the telecommunication sector, financial services, public sector and other key industries,” said Nik. “The demand on organisations by both internal and external customers for rapid results means that organisations are looking for ways to remove the pain of complex implementations.”
Oracle ASEAN general manager, EPM-BI-Analytics, Francis Han, said, “Merely jumping on the cloud bandwagon doesn’t always produce the desired result. With social and business intelligent capabilities are embedded directly into Oracle cloud-based business processes, Oracle offers companies modern social in business and mobile capabilities to build relationships with customers by studying and understand their needs.”
