Amadeus has continued its acquisition spree into 2014, snapping up Singapore-based airport technology provider UFIS for an undisclosed fee.

Amadeus acquires UFIS in bid to broaden its airport technology wing

IFIS Airport Solutions has a string of technology platforms under its belt, including planning and control centres, workflow management tools, a cloud-based operations system and its branded Universal Flight Information System.

Although the majority of staff are located in Singapore, until the Amadeus acquisition the UFIS Airport Solutions business was owned by a Norway-based holding company under the same name.

Around 50 employees are part in the deal, including the senior management team headed by president and CEO, Holger Mattig.

Amadeus’s head of airport IT, John Jarrell, says:

“Together, we are well positioned to shape the future of travel for the airport industry which today stands at a business model crossroads, evolving more and more to become business-oriented service providers with passengers as their top priority.”

UFIS has some 30 airport customers dotted around the globe, including facilities in Dubai, Bangkok, Delhi, Rome, Abu Dhabi, Bangalore, Warsaw, Athens and London.

Amadeus’s flagship IT product is the ALTEA Suite, a combination of departure control, reservation and inventory management tools for airlines. It is currently used by around 120 carriers.

The acquisition of UFIS comes just a month after splashing out $500 million on hotel technology specialist Newmarket International.

In April last year it also bought HitIt Loyalty, the customer relationship management division of HitIt Computer Services, also for an undisclosed fee.
